The relationship between corn and woman is unique, it is she who dries the cobs, cleans them, grinds the grain and cooks, it is the woman who “throws the tortillas”. It is no coincidence that the earth and its fertility have been associated by cultures across the globe with the figure of the woman.

Mujer Maíz is the one who provides, the one who sustains, the force of life. She carries us with her, nourishes us, reveals our light and our darkness. Fertilidad is a chandelier made from iron and clay that honors the vital force of the Mujer Maíz and Mother Earth. The place where all life begins and ends.

This piece was created during the Vision & Tradition Design Week Mexico residency program. The result of this collaboration was exhibited in the world-renowned National Museum of Anthropology.
